“Kidult”, the first single off the debut self-titled record of Brisbane band Terra Pines is an ode to self-conscious post-punk of yesteryear. Jagged guitars, driving danceable beats and playful melodies highlight the bands love of the pop craft. Heavily inspired by the bright and perky hooks of early Cure but reimagined through the bands ‘we love all things noisy’ internal filter, the song continues to build momentum until it reaches a distorted crescendo of guitars, drums and vocal harmonies. The vocal harmonies meander between the spaces of guitar and drums and the introspective vocal delivery underscores the quiet contemplation of feeling like a child trapped in an adult’s body.
